One of the most basic aspects of road safety rules that everybody should know about is the importance of wearing a seat belt, but a survey suggests that Indians have low regard to this rule.
A nation-wide survey conducted by Maruti Suzuki shockingly revealed that just one in four Indian drivers use their seat belts while driving.
While southern and eastern cities ranked lowest in the number of people wearing seat belts, people in the north and west seem to be following this rule more diligently.
The results also revealed that men are more likely to wear seat belts than women. Another alarming statistic says that only a meager 4% people use seat belts on the rear seats as well.
